Here is a movie that blends comedy and hip hop very well: Top Five. By the way, this flick is the inspiration behind our literary Top Five section.
It also brings light to the Haitian Revolution’s first major contributor in the person of Dutty Boukman. Being of Haitian descent myself, I love it. Big up to that.
The chemistry between Chris Rock and Rosario Dawson is perfect. A who’s who of A-list stand up comedians complement the flick with funny dialogues. As for the soundtrack, it is supervised by none other than Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson. This movie is perfectly written and directed by Chris Rock, and represents the finest film in his long repertoire. Fun fact, it is co produced by Sean “Jay-Z” Carter and Kanye West.
My favorite scene is when Andre (Rock’s character) describes Charlie Chaplin as the KRS-One of comedy or the Grandmaster Flash of HAHA. Chris’s humour at his best. A must see movie.
